This Privacy Policy explains how Later (“the App”) handles information when you use it. Later is a personal, private movie and TV diary. It is free, has no ads, does not create user accounts, and does not include social features.

By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Summary

  • Your lists, ratings, notes, and watch dates are stored on your device.
  • We do not create accounts or user profiles.
  • We do not show ads, sell your data, or track you across apps or websites.
  • When you search for or open a title, the App requests metadata and scores from third-party services (The Movie Database / TMDB). Those services may receive your query and standard technical information (such as IP address).
  • iCloud sync is not included in the current version. If we add it later, we will update this policy before enabling it.

    • 2. Information stored on your device

    Later stores the following locally on your iPhone/iPad (for example via SwiftData / on-device storage), under your control:

  • Watchlist and watched titles
  • Your ratings and private notes
  • Watch dates / diary-style entries you enter
  • App preferences (for example display settings)

    • This information stays on your device unless you use features that send it elsewhere (none in the current version, other than the third-party lookups described below).

    Deleting the App removes this local data from that device (subject to normal iOS behavior, including any device backups you make yourself).

    3. Information sent off your device

    3.1 TMDB (movie / TV metadata)

    To show titles, posters, cast, plots, ratings/scores, and related metadata, Later contacts:

  • The Movie Database (TMDB) — https://www.themoviedb.org and its API

    • When you search or open a title, the App may send:

  • Search text and/or title identifiers needed to fetch results
  • Technical request data those services typically receive (for example IP address, date/time, user-agent)

    • We do not control TMDB. Their handling of data is governed by their own policies:

    • 3.2 What we do not collect

    In the current version, Later does not:

  • Require or create an account
  • Collect your name, email, or phone number inside the App (except if you email us using the contact address above)
  • Use advertising networks or analytics SDKs to track you
  • Sell or rent personal information
  • Use your data for cross-app or cross-website tracking

    • 4. How information is used

  • On-device data is used only to provide Later’s features (your private shelf, diary, filters, discovery based on your own ratings/likes).
  • TMDB requests are used only to retrieve and display title metadata and scores for App functionality.

    • 5. Tracking and App Tracking Transparency

    Later does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising. The current version is not designed to require an App Tracking Transparency prompt for advertising tracking.

    6. Children

    Later is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us (for example by emailing us), contact us and we will delete it where appropriate.

    7. Data retention

  • Local App data remains on your device until you delete it in the App (if available) or uninstall the App.
  • Third-party services retain data according to their own policies.
  • Emails you send to our contact address are kept only as long as needed to respond and for ordinary business records.

    • 8. Your choices

  • Use Later without creating an account.
  • Limit what you search or open to control what is sent to TMDB.
  • Uninstall the App to remove local App data from that device.
  • Contact us at latertheapp@gmail.com with privacy questions or requests.

    • 9. Future features (iCloud)

    We may add optional iCloud sync in a future version so your shelf can sync across your Apple devices. That would use Apple’s iCloud under your Apple ID. This is not enabled yet. Before we ship iCloud sync, we will update this Privacy Policy and the App Store privacy labels.

    10. International users

    Third-party servers (TMDB) and, if you email us, our email provider may process information in countries other than yours. By using the App, you understand that such transfers may occur as needed to operate the App.

    11. Changes to this policy

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the App or on this page when appropriate. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
